Poetic Law: The Preface

poetic law the preface————————————————————

The Ten Commandments,
our standard for ethics,
training in righteousness
begins with the Preface:

“I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.

These laws were not meant to save, God’s people in that day
nor save, today, God’s people in that way

You see, God’s people were enslaved in the land of Egypt
Forced to work long hours, at the hand of the whip
God shielded a baby, the man named Moses
whom he used to free them from the demand of bondage

He first saved his people, and then he commanded.
A people set apart, is what he demanded.
It exposed their sin, their imperfections seen,
needing the prophet of Deuteronomy 18.

These show us our sin and point us to Christ
once saved, only then is our standard of life,
through the power of the Spirit, thankful of what was done,
as he conforms us to the image of his glorious Son
